About Lima

Being the capital of Peru, Lima is a bustling city and one of the largest ones in South America. It is an amazing place with a rich history and culture where you can also discover delicious Peruvian cuisine. The city lies on the Pacific Coast and offers the magical fusion of the past and the present.

Things to do

If you want to find out more about Peru’s history, there are several places you simply must see - pre-Columbian artifacts at Larco Museum, ruins of a pre-Incan pyramid at Huaca Pucllana, the 18th century Real Felipe Fortress, and Museo de la Nación’s art and artifacts related to Peruvian history. Those wishing to just take a walk and admire the city’s colonial architecture should go to the main square - Plaza de Armas of Lima - or the Historic Center of Lima.

Don’t worry, there are places for relaxation and entertainment as well.  Park of the Reserve has beautiful green space and fountains with light shows. Park of Love and Legends Park are also very popular. The Larcomar is a cliff-side outdoor mall where you can shop, eat, watch a movie, or go bowling. If you’re a food lover, visit one of the city restaurants and try a tasty Peruvian dish, you won’t be disappointed.

Jorge Chávez International Airport

This is Peru’s main airport for both domestic and international flights. It is conveniently located about 7 miles from the capital city. The airport code is LIM, and it got its name after a famous Peruvian aviator. In both 2017 and 2018, Jorge Chavez Airport served about 22 million passengers.

LIM offers numerous services to passengers. If you need to spend a few hours at the airport, you won’t be bored. There are duty-free shops, restaurants, bars, VIP lounges, banks, currency exchange, and ATMs. They even offer online shopping - browse the online catalog, pick products and pick-up point, and then pay at the store.

Transportation Network Companies are very popular around the world and usually have both affordable and reliable transfer service. However, this is not the case in Lima. Due to many reported incidents, people avoid using Uber, and the airport even refused to let them continue operating on-site.

However, if you still want to use their services, the ride from Lima to Miraflores costs about $5.

Public Transportation

The public bus stop is available outside the airport’s property on the main road. However, it isn’t advisable for tourists to use them - it is usually crowded, you don’t have enough luggage space, and that area outside the airport grounds isn’t very safe.

However, if you have to reduce your expenses and still want to use public transportation, find a bus stop called Aduanas and take the IM18 bus to Miraflores district. The ticket price is 2 Soles (it is $0.60).
