If you’re headed to a city hotel or ski resort, shared shuttle buses are the most cost-effective choice. The pick-up spot for the hotel guests is along the inner curbside lanes of Arrival 2.

CHECK-IN all-ways is a hotel shuttle provider that can take you to numerous hotels near the airport and around the city. The shuttle departs every 30 minutes from 6.30 AM to 11 PM. It’s a great choice, especially if you’re traveling with someone because the price varies according to the number of passengers.

We selected several hotels and discovered the CHECK-IN all-ways rates; see them in the list below.

Arlberg Express is the top choice for passengers who want to spend the winter in one of Arlberg’s ski resorts. The company offers Zurich Airport shuttle and private transfers for single travelers and groups alike. A direct shuttle bus service from Zurich Airport to Arlberg includes five bus lines during winter and one during summer.

The shuttle fares for the winter season are listed below.

Destination Single Adult Fare

Arlberg €50

Note that you have to make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance. Arlberg Express accepts all major credit cards, as well as a cash payment on the bus. To reach the pick-up location, follow the signs for bus/coaches to the bus station Lane R. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the departure.

Public Transportation

Trains give you probably the most convenient way to reach the city center. They run approximately every 5 to 10 minutes between 5 AM and midnight, and the journey to the main city station (Zurich HB) takes around 15 minutes. You can purchase the ticket online and pay only CHF 3.40 or pay CHF 6.80 on-board. The Zurich Airport train station is inside the airport terminal building — after you collect your luggage and reach the Arrivals Hall, simply follow the signs to the station.

Trams offer another affordable Zurich Airport transfer to the downtown area, but it takes around 35 minutes to reach the city center. Line 10 runs between the airport and the city. We suggest that you purchase a 24-hour pass that costs CHF 13.60, but you can also buy a ticket from the machines inside the airport terminals. Trams depart from outside the ZRH Arrivals Hall every 8 to 15 minutes.

Note that you can purchase tickets for any public transport service at the SBB ticket machines located in Arrival 1 and 2, in the area of Check-in 3.

Ridesharing

The ride-sharing company Uber serves ZRH Airport passengers and offer dependable transfers to any location in the city. This type of service is more expensive than any Zurich Airport shuttle, but it’s more affordable than taxicabs and private cars. Transfers can be booked via the Uber app on your phone. Depending on the city traffic, the fare from Zurich Airport to Zurich city center is approximately CHF 35. The pick-up spot will also be listed in your phone app after booking.

Taxi Services & Private Transfers

Airport taxis are available around the clock at ZRH, and you can find them along the inner curbside lanes of Arrival 1 and 2. We highly recommend using the official taxi vehicles marked as “Airport Taxi”. Some of them may offer a fixed-rate trip, but most taxis have a flat fee of CHF 6 plus 3.80 per kilometer. The taxi transfer from ZRH to the city center costs as low as CHF 50, but it can reach the price of CHF 70 in case of heavy traffic or at night. Also, when returning to the airport, if you book an Airport Taxi via the app, you will get a 50% discount.

If you value privacy and comfort, you can pre-book a private airport car service. Zurich Airport has a couple of official transfer companies that are available in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 1 — GLM International and Alliance Limousines. Check them out to see their services and vehicles, and feel free to contact them for more information regarding rates. Estimated fares for a private vehicle start at CHF 59 per vehicle for up to three passengers.

Car Hire

Renting a vehicle at ZRH is simple and usually quick, but we suggest that you make a reservation in advance and thus lower your expenses. This way, you can compare the rates and find the one with the lowest prices or online discounts. Rental agencies at Zurich Airport are in the Car Rental Center, located on the first floor of the Airport Shopping. The Center offers the major car rental companies, such as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Enterprise, Dollar, Thrifty, Hertz, National, and Sixt. To return your rental car, follow the “Rental Car Return” signs to the P3 parking facility.
