About Brisbane

As a very populous and buzzing city in Australia (and a popular holiday destination), Brisbane represents a center of activities regarding culture and art. There are numerous creative spaces and exhibitions, great restaurants, amazing gardens near the Brisbane River, and a cool man-made beach.

Things to do

South Bank is a precinct in Brisbane that offers various cultural, recreational, and educational possibilities. If you want to take a walk in nature and relax, find a nice restaurant, or visit a river-swimming beach, this is a place for you. The Brisbane City Botanic Gardens is also a great place for families to have a picnic and enjoy near a pond. If you go a bit farther away from the city center, you can check out Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary which is actually the largest koala sanctuary in the world.

The Gallery of Modern Art, the Queensland Museum, and the Queensland Art Gallery are located in the South Bank as well - visit them to find out more about architecture, art, and science. Those who want to go shopping can take a walk to the huge Queen Street Mall that includes 6 major shopping centers. Just across the river is Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park which is an ideal place for a barbecue where you can also go rock climbing. If you have time to explore the area, go north of the city to check out the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

How to get from Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast?

After you arrive at BNE, you'll be able to choose from various Brisbane Airport transfers, but it’s better and safer to book your airport shuttle or private car in advance. We’ve listed all transportation providers - see below to discover all about Brisbane Airport shuttle, Uber, airport taxi, public transportation, and rental cars.

The fastest transfers from Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast are taxi cabs and trains - both need about 20 minutes to reach the destination. Trains are cheaper, and you can buy a ticket for as low as $34. Airport shuttles are also a great option offering rates from $35, but they need a bit more time to get you to Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast. Uber is a reliable alternative, but it's more expensive than BNE Airport shuttle services and public transport. The most cost-effective transfer is the public bus service.

Brisbane Airport Transfers

Airport shuttles are a popular transportation option offering door-to-door service and shared rides to and from the airport. Several shuttles/shuttle bus operators are serving Brisbane Airport and offer hassle-free trips. Use any of the below-listed transfers (Brisbane-based) to reach your hotel or any other location; the ride to the city takes around 30 minutes.

Con-x-ion is a dependable shuttle bus service that can provide you with a door-to-door airport transfer from both terminals to many locations around Brisbane/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast. Sunshine Coast

The airport shuttle pickup locations:

  • International Terminal: at the Visitor Information desk.

Rideshare

BNE Airport was one of the first Australian airports to enable ridesharing, and this is one of the pricier Brisbane Airport transfers (it's much more expensive than shuttle transfers). If you want to book an Uber ride from BNE, use the phone app, and go to the designated pick-up areas:

  • Upon exiting the Domestic Terminal, go to the central road located between the taxi pick-up and passenger pick-up and drop-off area, on any side of the Skywalk;
  • From Level 2, at the southern end of the International Terminal, follow the Ride Booking signs down the ramp that will lead you to the pick-up area and your driver.

To help you compare the prices of all transportation options, we’ve listed Uber rates from the airport to the top 3 destinations in Queensland.

Uber Brisbane Airport

  • to Brisbane city center: A$31
  • to South Bank: A$35
  • to Gold Coast: A$132

Note that there is a fee of $4 for passengers using a ride-share service from the airport to any location.

Airport Taxi Service

One of the fastest Brisbane Airport transfers is the taxi service. It's more expensive than BNE shuttle buses but also more convenient. Taxis are available 24/7, and you may find a taxi vehicle at sheltered ranks outside both terminals:

  • Domestic: the taxi rank is centrally in the front of the Terminal building;
  • International: the cab rank is at the northern end of the Terminal - head through the doors and out to the left.

People traveling from Brisbane Airport to the city center pay $45 - $55 for a 20-minute ride to Brisbane. Due to the higher rates, we don't recommend using taxi transfers to QLD locations like Sunshine Coast or Surfers Paradise, which are over 1-hour drive away.

There are two official taxi operators that pick up and drop off travelers at BNE:

  • Black & White Cabs - 13 22 22
  • Yellow Cabs - 13 19 24

Rental Cars

Hiring a car at BNE allows you to travel on your own schedule. You don't have to wait for your driver or other passengers, and you have the vehicle only for yourself. If you value privacy and independence, this is the right service for you or your group.

Brisbane Airport provides a variety of car hire services through several rental companies: Avis, Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, Europcar, and Thrifty. See their location at both terminals below.

  • Terminal D: Level 1, near baggage claim at both ends of the Terminal.
  • Terminal I: Level 2, at the back of Spoon Cafe.

Some off-site rental car agencies are also allowed to pick up passengers at both Domestic and International terminals.

Public Transportation

The cheapest Brisbane Airport transfers are public buses, of course. Brisbane City Council runs a public bus service that serves the airport and allows you to have a reasonably-priced trip to the city. Upon your arrival, go to the Skygate Centre, and look for the bus route 590 that runs daily. Use the Go Card to get the cheapest price; the shuttle bus fare depends on the number of zones you want to travel through:

  • 1 zone - $2.70
  • 2 zones - $3.29
  • 3 zones - $5.02
  • 4 zones - $6.61

The listed prices refer to off-peak periods; use the Translink website to learn more about the fares and pick-up time schedules.

Trains

The Airtrain is one of the most convenient Brisbane Airport transfers that can get you to the city center within 20 minutes, and it also offers express services from Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast. Trains run every 15 minutes from BNE during peak times (and every 30 minutes during non-peak hours).

The train is cheaper than taxi cabs but more expensive than public buses.

  • The ticket from BNE to the Central Station in the city is as low as $15 if you pay online. Otherwise, the one-way price is $19.50.
  • The online ticket from Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast costs $35.60.

Purchase train tickets at the Airtrain desks situated in both terminals or at the train stations. Booking online is a better option if you wish to get a cheaper rate. You may use the Go Cards for Airtrain services as well.

Train stops at BNE are at the following locations of both terminals:

  • International: take the lift to the terminal building’s Level 3 and follow the signs to the station.
  • Domestic: go out to the front of the building and take the Skywalk across to the train station.

Shuttle Fare provides a vast number of informative travel guides that can make your holiday to a foreign country hassle-free. You can easily find convenient transfer services at Gold Coast Airport (OOL) and Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY), too. Apart from Queensland and Australia, we cover many airports around the world.
